Jubilation Art Course

Children and Young People are invited to join us for five *virtual workshops this summer term.  Over the course of the workshops, they will take a journey through the Queen’s reign and learn new techniques, exploring monoprint, linocut, embroidery, and collage.

Participants will be invited to create a square utilising techniques they’ve learnt to represent an aspect of the Queen’s reign.

These individual squares should be mounted onto the material provided and returned to Live Art Local CIC.  They will be stitched together into a larger piece that tells the story of the Queen’s reign through the eyes of children.  The resulting artwork will be on display at SPACE in Fareham Shopping Centre and then donated to the Civic Offices as a permanent art work to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

These workshops are Free and every child who participates will receive an Arts Award Discover, and a box of basic materials and equipment.

If your child already has an Arts Award Discover and you would like to achieve an Arts Award Explore please remember they must undertake all the sessions in different arts offered as part of JUBILATION!, including the 5 art workshops, 3 poetry workshops, 2 music/songwriting, and 1 dance.  The workshops will be free and we will be subsidising the cost of the certificate and moderation (Discover is marked by ourselves and not moderated), so that they are only £12 per child.

To do the Arts Award Explore you must make sure you are signed up for the Art workshops beginning this Tuesday.

Every child who joins the art workshops will be getting their very own box of free materials and equipment to undertake the sessions.  These will give them everything required to undertake the sessions (equipment/materials will vary depending on age).  These boxes are worth £20 + each.  If you need these delivered we ask that you cover postage.  They will be available to pick up from our house on Sunday evening.  If you do not have a car we will try and deliver on Monday in the Fareham/ Gosport area.  However, our car failed its MOT today and we’ve been told there are no hire cars available until Monday at the earliest so we may not have a car.

The timetable for the art workshops is as follows:

Tuesday 26th April 10:30 Session 1: Monoprint – an Introduction

Tuesday 3rd May Session 2: Linocut (age-appropriate equipment/materials differ for 7+ and 11+

Tuesday 10th May Session 3: Embroidery – an introduction (age-appropriate equipment/materials differ for 7+ and 11+)

Tuesday 17th May Session 4: Collage – an introduction

Tuesday 24th May Session 5: Making your square for the Queen’s Jubilee artwork to be displayed in the civic centre and exhibited at SPACE using techniques we’ve learnt.  These are to be returned to LIVE ART LOCAL to be joined to the other artworks for a large artwork to celebrate the Queen’s jubilee.

Sessions 1- 4 will take place via Zoom, they will be an hour long but we may sometimes overrun slightly

At present we are aiming for Session 5 to take place in person at SPACE though this is subject to change Covid dependent and we will still run a ZOOM session that week for those unable to attend and their work will still be included in the giant fabric collage.

We will be supplying a workbook of sorts in the packs for all young people to complete to achieve their arts award and we’ll talk about this a bit more in the first session (not really work just evidencing their work and progression, does not even need to be written)

* Please note we may run some in-person sessions depending on what Covid levels are doing.  Our highest priority is making sure that all children can safely take part irrespective of whether they or family members are clinically vulnerable to covid.
