Every week for four weeks we will undertake a new project, acquiring a new skill.  The workshops will be held over ZOOM! to ensure Covid safety and then on week 5 we will meet in-person to create our individual squares for the large JUBILATION! Art work, celebrating 70 years on the throne for HRH the Queen.

Thanks to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation and funding from Arts Council England, every child taking part has been gifted art equipment and materials that will enable them to continue with their newfound skills even after the course is over and every single child/young person will also have the opportunity to attain an Arts Award Discover, all for Free whilst undertaking this course!

Boxes are all packed for our JUBILATION! Art Course

After four days of prep and packing, we are excited to announce our Equipment and Materials boxes for the JUBILATION! Art Course are now ready to go.  Every box contains everything that will be needed to create different artworks over the next 5 weeks, with specific boxes for ages 7+ and 11+ containing age-appropriate equipment.

Also included are the booklets for your Arts Award Discover and course booklets detailing what will be needed for every session.

Arts Award Explore

We have great news, for those of you who already have an Arts Award Discover, you can now use our FREE JUBILATION! workshops to achieve your Arts Award Explore, for only the cost of moderation with Trinity College London (our outside moderators who check our marking and administer the award).  This means that your son, daughter, or non-binary child can access our free workshops and achieve the next level of arts award for very little cost.

Those who wish to undertake the Arts Award Explore will need to attend all the workshops as part of JUBILATION! Art, Music, Poetry, and Dance, this is because the Arts Award Explore is a higher award and requires more work and evidence than the Discover.

The cost to us for moderation and certificate is £14 per a child, but we are able to reduce this cost by to £12 using some of our contingency funding.    If you would like your child to undertake an Arts Award Explore then please email us and we will invoice you via paypal.  This will need to be paid as “friends and family” or a “seller you trust” otherwise there will be costs added and it will cost us money rather than saving you money on moderartion.

Choreographer/Dance Company Workshop Opportunity

image for recruiting dance company

As part of our exciting Spring project we have a great opportunity for a dance company or choreographer with a current DBS certificate (within 6 months) to work with us this Spring over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.

The selected candidate will spend a half-day working with children/young people to create a piece that tells a story and celebrates the 70 years of the Queen’s reign.  The time spent will total 3 hours including two 10 minute breaks.  The piece will be performed to a small audience at the end of the session.  We are looking at the possibility of this performance taking place outside (weather dependent).

We will pay a total of £200 for the 3-hour session and up to £50 to cover expenses for the day (including travel, money towards childcare if required, and food).  This will be payable after an invoice is raised and will be paid by the Tuesday following receipt of the invoice.

To apply please do fill out this short form, including a link to your related work

Alternatively, if you wish to discuss this further please email beth@liveartlocal.co.uk and leave any details, plus a phone number and we will call you back to discuss.

Due to when funding was confirmed and the short timeframe we have for this project we aim to let the successful candidate know by 17th April.

Musician/Songwriter Needed For 2 Workshops

Due to funding for a new project this summer (details embargoed by funder until 11th April) we are looking for a musician/songwriter to work with us.

This opportunity would involve two 1 3/4 hour workshops with children/young people to create a song (details about the theme will be given upon application) that they will then perform in Fareham this June.  The workshops will take place once a week in the final two weeks of May (exact date to be confirmed).

The main requirements we have for the selected musician is that they hold a current DBS certificate, or if they have a BASIC DBS that it is within the last 6 months; and that they have experience of running workshops and working with children and young people.

We will pay the selected musician/songwriter £150 per workshop and up to £20 expenses per session.

It would be nice if the selected musician could attend their performance of the piece, however, this is not mandatory and we are unable to pay for attendance as it will fall outside the time of the workshops.  However, we may be able to cover travel expenses.

To apply you can complete the form here. Please remember to insert a link to examples of your work

To discuss any aspect of this opportunity please email beth@liveartlocal.co.uk and leave your phone number for an informal chat.

This is a fast-moving project and we will get back to people by the 17th April

For each session, you will be paid £100 for the hour and we can accommodate up to £20 in expenses per session.  The chosen candidate/s will be asked to invoice us after the session and we will make payment by the following Tuesday to a nominated bank account.

We Are an Arts Award Centre!!!

We are delighted to announce that Live Art Local CIC, and our space in Fareham Shopping Centre have been given Arts Award centre status.  This means that we will soon be offering courses and other opportunities for children and young people to gain these nationally-recognised qualifications.  We are currently able to offer Arts Award Discover and Explore for Primary aged kids and above (although we can make exceptions), and Bronze and Silver Arts Award for older children and young people up to 25 years.  We will seek to offer opportunities for the Gold Arts Award in the future.

These opportunities will be within art and literature, however we are looking to working with Arts Award advisers in other artistic fields (music, theatre and dance) to expand this offer in the future.

What is Arts Award?

Arts Award is a qualification, moderated and awarded by Trinity College London.  Arts Award’s unique qualifications support children and young people to develop as artists and arts leaders.  The programme develops skills for success in 21st-century life including creativity, leadership, reflective thinking and communication skills. Young people also develop knowledge and understanding of their chosen art forms.
It is open to anyone aged 25 and under and embraces all interests and backgrounds.  Through Arts Award young people learn to work independently, helping them to prepare for further education and employment.

Culture @ Home Week 12: Making Giant Paper Flowers with Beth Davis-Hofbauer

So this week it was finally the time of our founder, Beth to run her session, showing attendees, and now you, how to make giant paper flowers.  Beth being Beth this session overran somewhat, but if you have a spare hour and a half and fancy learning to make some flowers, or even create your own flower installation at home to share with us as part of a larger artwork, then this could be the workshop you’re looking for.
