Thanks Jim!

We were delighted last week to welcome Hampshire singer-songwriter and workshop facilitator,  Jim Chorley to SPACE to run our 2 workshops with local young people to create a song for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  Jim’s interest is in how the Queen and in particular, her seventy-five years on the throne have fostered a sense of community and how this can be explored through song.  Working together Jim and our young people created a song entitled Lovely Jubbly Jubilee.  You can find the lyrics and listen to the song below.

Lovely Jubbly Jubilee

The Queen lives in London

The Jubilee was on Thursday

We had lots of fun

She slayed the day away

Chorus:

Let’s have a lovely Jubbly Jubilee

Seventy years of Majesty

Lovely Jubbly Jubilee

Her favourite dog is a corgi

She loves all animals

She created the dorgi

Maybe the next will be camels

Chorus

There are Monarchs all over the world

But none as cool as our Elizabeth

Her hair looks great straight or curly

And she’s got many private chefs

Chorus

She’s never without her pearls

She loves to wear the colour blue

Her hair is worn in curls

How about you?

Chorus

EXHIBITION NOW OPEN!

This weekend, and for the next two weeks you can come down to SPACE and see the JUBILATION! giant artwork in all its glory.  Featuring the work of our Art Course workshop group and backed onto blue satin this giant artwork celebrates the remarkable feat of 70 years on the throne through the eyes of local children and young people.

There is also the chance to read some of the poems written by Fareham children between the ages of 7 and 12 and which will be featured in our poetry collection coming later this summer!

Poetry Sessions

Our poetry workshops culminated in an in-person session today, a nice change from our online sessions.  We’re so proud of our workshop group and the brilliant way they’ve worked together and on their own poems over the last few weeks and we look forward to showcasing their work in the JUBILATION! poetry work we’ll be publishing over the summer.

Writer Lucy Flannery going through the children's poetry

Huge thanks to Lucy Flannery who took today’s session and who has been running our outreach sessions with a local school.  We’re busy going through all the poems from these at the moment and are looking forward to including as many as possible in our eagerly awaited book of children’s poetry.

We’ll be updating here as soon as possible with details of the upcoming book!

Art Boxes for JUBILATION! are packed and ready!

This weekend we’ve been working hard on creating our bespoke art boxes for every child/young person taking part in the JUBILATION! art course over the next 5 weeks.

Every week for four weeks we will undertake a new project, acquiring a new skill.  The workshops will be held over ZOOM! to ensure Covid safety and then on week 5 we will meet in-person to create our individual squares for the large JUBILATION! Art work, celebrating 70 years on the throne for HRH the Queen.

Thanks to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation and funding from Arts Council England, every child taking part has been gifted art equipment and materials that will enable them to continue with their newfound skills even after the course is over and every single child/young person will also have the opportunity to attain an Arts Award Discover, all for Free whilst undertaking this course!

Boxes are all packed for our JUBILATION! Art Course

After four days of prep and packing, we are excited to announce our Equipment and Materials boxes for the JUBILATION! Art Course are now ready to go.  Every box contains everything that will be needed to create different artworks over the next 5 weeks, with specific boxes for ages 7+ and 11+ containing age-appropriate equipment.

Also included are the booklets for your Arts Award Discover and course booklets detailing what will be needed for every session.

Arts Award Explore

We have great news, for those of you who already have an Arts Award Discover, you can now use our FREE JUBILATION! workshops to achieve your Arts Award Explore, for only the cost of moderation with Trinity College London (our outside moderators who check our marking and administer the award).  This means that your son, daughter, or non-binary child can access our free workshops and achieve the next level of arts award for very little cost.

Those who wish to undertake the Arts Award Explore will need to attend all the workshops as part of JUBILATION! Art, Music, Poetry, and Dance, this is because the Arts Award Explore is a higher award and requires more work and evidence than the Discover.

The cost to us for moderation and certificate is £14 per a child, but we are able to reduce this cost by to £12 using some of our contingency funding.    If you would like your child to undertake an Arts Award Explore then please email us and we will invoice you via paypal.  This will need to be paid as “friends and family” or a “seller you trust” otherwise there will be costs added and it will cost us money rather than saving you money on moderartion.

Choreographer/Dance Company Workshop Opportunity

image for recruiting dance company

As part of our exciting Spring project we have a great opportunity for a dance company or choreographer with a current DBS certificate (within 6 months) to work with us this Spring over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.

The selected candidate will spend a half-day working with children/young people to create a piece that tells a story and celebrates the 70 years of the Queen’s reign.  The time spent will total 3 hours including two 10 minute breaks.  The piece will be performed to a small audience at the end of the session.  We are looking at the possibility of this performance taking place outside (weather dependent).

We will pay a total of £200 for the 3-hour session and up to £50 to cover expenses for the day (including travel, money towards childcare if required, and food).  This will be payable after an invoice is raised and will be paid by the Tuesday following receipt of the invoice.

To apply please do fill out this short form, including a link to your related work

Alternatively, if you wish to discuss this further please email beth@liveartlocal.co.uk and leave any details, plus a phone number and we will call you back to discuss.

Due to when funding was confirmed and the short timeframe we have for this project we aim to let the successful candidate know by 17th April.
