Make a SuperHero Cape!

Join us on Saturday November 4th at 2:30pm for a 2.5 hour workshop to create a superhero cape for the little person in your life.  At this workshop you will be provided with all the materials you need to create a superhero cape of your choosing.

super hero cape

Working with felt you will create a personalised cape for your little one featuring their own superhero name and be able to use an assortment of felt shapes we have precut for you to design a cape they will cherish.  As part of this workshop we will provide you with a bag of assorted decorations for your little one to add with you at home to continue the fun and make them feel like a real hero as they work with you to make the cloak of their dreams!

This workshop will cost £25 for which you get all materials required and extras to take home and finish the cape with your little superhero!

We will soon open booking and when we do so please choose which colour you would like for your cape.

Drop In Bonfire Night Kids Activity

Join us on the 5th of November where we will be running a drop-in Bonfire Night activity for kids in SPACE (not the cosmos, our small unit in Fareham Shopping Centre).  For a £1 contribution kids can colour in a Guy Fawkes mask and make a card Capotain hat as worn by the Gunpowder Plotters including Guy Fawkes.

Younger ones can join in and help us make a big firework-inspired picture for the wall, blowing paint around with straws, flicking paint with toothbrushes and using other every day items to create all manner of fireworks!

Art Play will still be on and donations are appreciated for this!

We will be running from 10:30 to 1pm so come down and see us!

Creative Youth Halloween

It’s been a busy half term at our Creative Youth group and we’re so proud of the work undertaken by our group.  Over the last few sessions the girls learnt how to make willow lantern ghosts which we hung in the windows of SPACE next to our black cat lantern head.  A couple of the girls also helped group facilitator, Beth with creating a giant witches hate lantern for Halloween.

As always we’re very proud of the progress our group members are making and are looking forward to welcoming them back for Christmas term.  Beth promised the group they could start working on Christmas decorations and goodies after the Half Term Break and so we’ll be back on Thursday and the now growing group will be working on making dried citrus fruit swags for use over the festive season.

We’ve got loads more great workshops for home ed young people over this half term that is run on a voluntary basis with only a small contribution to materials, so if you have a home educated adolescent who’d like to make new friends and develop their creative skills, get in touch about coming along to our Thursday sessions!

Creative Youth: Home Ed Arty Youth Group

We’re excited to announce that last Thursday was the first of our CREATIVE YOUTH! sessions, a new drop-off arty youth group for home-educated teens.  Taking place from 2:30pm-4pm every Thursday, these sessions will enable young people of senior school age to hang out, make new friends, get creative and learn new skills all for just the cost of materials and sundries (£3.50 a week).

Last week was a getting to know you session where we played ice-breaker games; came up with our group rules; discovered a bit about what people enjoy creatively, and while some of us made giant paper tissue flowers for a new installation, others sat in our cosy corner and did some crochet.

If you are a home-educated young person who would like to join us (obviously speak to your parents/guardians about it first), then please join our group on Facebook (subject to approval) where you can find out more and get involved!

Culture @ Home Week 12: Making Giant Paper Flowers with Beth Davis-Hofbauer

So this week it was finally the time of our founder, Beth to run her session, showing attendees, and now you, how to make giant paper flowers.  Beth being Beth this session overran somewhat, but if you have a spare hour and a half and fancy learning to make some flowers, or even create your own flower installation at home to share with us as part of a larger artwork, then this could be the workshop you’re looking for.

Fareham Fun Palace at Sticks Saturday 3rd October 11 am

Join us this Saturday in Fareham for Fun Palaces weekend.  This is a great International event aimed at getting everyone involved in arts and science.  The motto, “Everyone an Artist, Everyone a Scientist” is at the forefront of each event taking place around the world.

Fareham Fun Palace is the only event happening in this part of Hampshire and we are very proud to be a part of such a great thing…. afterall the arts and sciences are dependent on one another (despite what the current Government believes).  It is that creative spark that creates new ideas, ways of doing things, makes beautiful images, ground breaking computer animation and ultimately, changes the world.

The whole idea behind Fun Palaces is to break down the barriers to arts and sciences, so that science isn’t so scary and art isn’t held up as something only a certain few can do.  You do not need to know the theory of relativity or the rule of thirds, each of us, everyone is capable to great creativity.

We believe it is important to harness in children and young people this desire to learn and to create. We want everyone to have the same feeling of awe as children do, this is why our fun palace in Fareham is aimed at families with children between 2 and 13.

We open on Saturday 3rd October at 11am and then for the next 4 hours you are welcome to drop in and get creative.  For four hours we will be running fun and educational activities tied to the science of crystals: how they are formed; how to grow your own at home and we’ll also be making fake geodes.  There are other activities to get involved in too.

All you have to do is turn up at Sticks (opposites Millets in Fareham Shopping Centre) from 11am on Saturday and join in.  The whole thing is free but we do welcome donations.

We look forward to meeting you!
