Culture@Home: Susanna Dye – Home: A Toolbox for Movement

Every week until 19th August we are running a Culture @ Home session on Wednesday afternoons at 2pm.  These are always free and the creatives are each paid £150 for taking part.  After the sessions we compress the recording and where agreed with the artist, make it available online so that those who could not join our sessions are able to make use of them at home.

This week we were lucky enough to have movement director and choreographer Susanna Dye open us up to the idea of using your home as a creative tool for movement and to look at these places we inhabit with fresh eyes.  The session is below, thanks to all who took part.

Creatives Wanted: Lead a Home is Where the Art is Workshop/Performance

we have had a few issues with some of the applications we have received so far, so please read all of the below, thank you
* please note you are applying to run one self-contained workshop and not a series over 13 weeks.  you can apply to run more than one workshop but must use a new application for each workshop. each workshop you submit MUST be different

Due to a successful funding application, Live Art Local is very happy to announce the launch of a new project, and as a result, ten paid opportunities for artists, musicians, singers, poets, writers, theatre-makers, and others over the course of the pandemic.

Over 13 weeks starting from the 13th of May (every Wednesday) we will be running a weekly workshop via Zoom for people to join in with at home.  We already have three of the workshops planned for but have openings for another ten.  We want you and your creativity to join us and run a workshop from your home, for people in their homes.

THE RULES:

Every workshop is an hour-long, must use, where possible, things most people are already likely to have at home, and they must positively, creatively engage people during this period of isolation and distancing, apart from that we have no criteria so feel free to let your imagination run wild.

As we are using the pro version of Zoom security should not be an issue and through this we can offer places for up to 100 people to join the workshop.  However, that is not to say your workshop has to be aimed at 100 people, it could be as little as five… it is up to you!

Artists will be paid the Friday following their workshop via paypal, where this is not possible we will arrange another way of making payment.

The fee for a workshop is £150, and we have a budget of up to £50 for materials, although we need to agree to these beforehand.

To apply please fill out the form below ASAP.  As mentioned previously this is to start very soon and so we have a small window to receive and assess applications.

Applications close on Friday 15th and we will notify successful applicants every three days from today so you will hear very soon whether you have been successful.

In exceptional circumstances, we will (where there is a small theatre company or music ensemble) make an exception to the workshop rule and permit a performance, though this will not affect the fee, and in these cases, unless the members of the company live together, strict social distancing rules (2m apart) must apply.

In the above circumstances, we will ask you to Livestream the performance with us and make a recording available so that we can make it available to those unable to join the livestream.  You retain copyright.

Please note as this is online we are able to accept applications from around the UK!

Disabled and Elderly to put Fareham’s History on the map

Live Art Local CIC/ Sticks Gallery would love to let you all in on a little secret………

A few months ago we applied for some funding to run a series of workshops examining the history of Fareham borough with older, isolated people living in the borough; families with disabled children and adults with learning disabilities. These workshops would culminate in an exhibition and the publication of a new heritage trail map for Fareham.

We are very pleased and excited to announce that on Friday we received confirmation that we had been successful in our grant application. The workshops will run this summer and will be a chance for our chosen groups to get creative, make new friends, learn new skills, find out about Fareham’s history and produce an exhibition and history trail they can feel proud of.

After publication the heritage trail will be available to buy and all monies from the sale of the map will be divided between Live Art Local CIC and charities/groups that help those groups working on the project.

We will be posting more information in due course

New Affiliate Artists Scheme

We are migrating our artist membership to our new affiliate artists scheme website offering more for artists than ever before………

The new Sticks Gallery Affiliate Artists Scheme

What does this mean for our current artists:

For our current artist members this means that you will be transferred over to our new artist only site over the coming week.  You will not need to register under our new system as owing to the changes we are making there will be changes to the cost and benefits.

As current members we will give you access to our new silver membership level for the amount you are currently paying on a weekly or quarterly basis.   We will continue to provide this better service at the reduced cost for the next year and on 15/1/17 you will be given the option to join up under our new scheme or have your membership terminated.

Those on a yearly subscription will need to do nothing until their current year ends.  They will then have the option to start a new subscription at the current rates and scheme

We have done this to provide more for artists and to also lessen the affect of the changes we are making on our current artist members.

From the time we migrate you over you will access everything via the affiliate artists sub site

http://affiliateartists.sticksgallery.co.uk

You will not need new login details, unless you have altered your password as we will migrate you over with the same details.  In order to make this as seamless as possible we may need to reset certain passwords but you will be able to change these again after the change over.

This is great news for artists as it means more, more help, more support and more opportunities.  On the new site have an opportunities wall that is updated with the newest opportunities from the art world; you can still enter our call outs for free; we have a new look artist listing on the sticks gallery main site which you can upload work and a statement to be on; we have changed the way meetups work and have now created bimonthly artist circle peer review groups and workshops enabling you to get the most out of your practice… and more.

We are also featuring a selected artist on the main Sticks Gallery website each month, featuring an interview and selected images, allowing a bigger audience to get to know you better.

ARTIST? CRAFTER? DESIGNER? WANT TO RUN A COURSE WITH US

RUN WORKSHOPS OR COURSES? WANT TO RUN ANY IN OUR SPACE?

We are seeking those members of Live Art Local who run courses and workshops who may be looking for space.  We know that some of our members teach painting and craft workshops and that it can be very difficult to find cheap,  regular space to enable you to do this.  This is why we would love to invite you to work with us.

We are happy to have one off workshops or longer term courses.   If you would like to discuss then please get in touch.  So that you do not have to pay for the space if you do not have the numbers we are happy to take a small commission based on those you have attending.  We are looking at this being approximately 10-15%

Fareham Fun Palace at Sticks Saturday 3rd October 11 am

Join us this Saturday in Fareham for Fun Palaces weekend.  This is a great International event aimed at getting everyone involved in arts and science.  The motto, “Everyone an Artist, Everyone a Scientist” is at the forefront of each event taking place around the world.

Fareham Fun Palace is the only event happening in this part of Hampshire and we are very proud to be a part of such a great thing…. afterall the arts and sciences are dependent on one another (despite what the current Government believes).  It is that creative spark that creates new ideas, ways of doing things, makes beautiful images, ground breaking computer animation and ultimately, changes the world.

The whole idea behind Fun Palaces is to break down the barriers to arts and sciences, so that science isn’t so scary and art isn’t held up as something only a certain few can do.  You do not need to know the theory of relativity or the rule of thirds, each of us, everyone is capable to great creativity.

We believe it is important to harness in children and young people this desire to learn and to create. We want everyone to have the same feeling of awe as children do, this is why our fun palace in Fareham is aimed at families with children between 2 and 13.

leaflet for Fareham Fun Palace at Sticks Saturday 3rd October 11am

We open on Saturday 3rd October at 11am and then for the next 4 hours you are welcome to drop in and get creative.  For four hours we will be running fun and educational activities tied to the science of crystals: how they are formed; how to grow your own at home and we’ll also be making fake geodes.  There are other activities to get involved in too.

All you have to do is turn up at Sticks (opposites Millets in Fareham Shopping Centre) from 11am on Saturday and join in.  The whole thing is free but we do welcome donations.

We look forward to meeting you!
