Culture @ Home: Week 11 Folkdance Remixed

This week we were lucky enough to be joined by the artistic directors of Folk Dance Remixed who led a session teaching our participants a number of street dance and folk dance steps that are fused to create an exciting and different style of movement.

If you were unable to make the session then join along at home whenever you feel comfortable by following the recording of our workshop with FolkDance Remixed.

Culture@Home: Susanna Dye – Home: A Toolbox for Movement

Every week until 19th August we are running a Culture @ Home session on Wednesday afternoons at 2pm.  These are always free and the creatives are each paid £150 for taking part.  After the sessions we compress the recording and where agreed with the artist, make it available online so that those who could not join our sessions are able to make use of them at home.

This week we were lucky enough to have movement director and choreographer Susanna Dye open us up to the idea of using your home as a creative tool for movement and to look at these places we inhabit with fresh eyes.  The session is below, thanks to all who took part.

Fareham Heritage Trail Map Now Free to Download!

As the Covid-19 outbreak has a huge effect on all our lives, and the world we inhabit gets smaller,  we have decided to make the Fareham Heritage Trail Map available for FREE download from today.

The Fareham Heritage Trail Map was created in 2016 after workshops with the local community (you can find out more via our Projects page)  and provided a journey through the borough’s history, from Portchester to Swanwick, much of it acessible on foot.

It recently dawned on us that as people are moving around on foot and exploring their local area more than usual the map could provide a welcome accompaniment to daily exercise and offer a distraction from what’s going on in the world, and provide an opportunity to learn more about the rich history of Fareham Borough.

The map can be downloaded as a PDF below, and on our homepage.  Although it is free, as a not for profit hit hard by the pandemic we welcome donations, and you can do so via the Donate button below

Create the Cover of Inaugural Issue of South Central

This is a great opportunity for any artist working in 2D media.  The Live Art Local CIC family is unleashing a new art and culture publication on the world based around the south central region and those making art and culture happen in it.  With a DIY aesthetic each issue will be an artefact in its own right and we seek to showcase the amazing talent that is out there in our area!

We are seeking an artist who lives or works within the region shown below to create the lead artwork for the inaugural edition of South Central due to launch on March 15th 2016

map showing region covered by South Central

Artists can work in any 2D medium/media and work can be new or existing work.   We are especially keen to see work that has some relationship to the south central region, although this is not necessary.

To submit work is absolutely free, if you are not chosen for the front cover this time we may still be able to include your work.  Artists will be credited and a link to their website provided within the first 2 pages.

All you need to do is to fill out form below and upload the piece you would like featured.  Please save the file you are sending in the format “name – title-southcentral”.  We need to receive all works no later than the 15th February.  The successful artist will be notified no later than the 17th February.

As we are using the image you send us you need to make sure that the photo you send is well lit and at least 300dpi with dimensions no less than A5 size.  We can accept jpegs, eps, psd,ai, png, and pdf files

Being Human: festival of the humanities

Being Human Festival is coming……..13th -21st November 2015

So it’s that time of year again, the Being Human festival is coming to Portsmouth from November 13th -21st 2015 and it is not to be missed.

Being Human is the first UK wide festival of the humanities and it is back for a second year.  Portsmouth University has a key role in the event leading the series, Port City: Narratives of Migration .  As  Yael Friedman says on the Portsmouth University Being Human Facebook page:
“Portsmouth tends to be associated with the history of the Navy, and there is a mistaken perception that the city is mono-cultural. Through its lectures, walk, workshop, exhibition and readings, Port City: Narratives of Migration aims to dispel this notion and encourage people to think a little differently about the city’s history.” Yael Friedman

There are 5 key events associated with the period and although they are all FREE, numbers are limited so early booking is essential:

13 November: Drinking tea to escape the noise of the world

14 November: Portsmouth sailortown walk

17 November: Engaging with the past: Migration memories

18 November: Reviving the crescent: Portsmouth connects with Asia

21 November: Exploring Walter Besant’s ‘By Celia’s Arbour’ – Creative Writing Workshop

Being Human is supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), and the British Academy (BA) with additional support from the Wellcome Trust.
